Vacant Home Insurance Coverage

See the coverages under a vacant home policy from Foremost.

Named Peril Coverage

Coverage for "perils" (fire, explosion, lightning, windstorm and hail damage) which are specifically named in your policy, subject to policy exclusions and conditions.

Vandalism and Malicious Mischief Coverage

Some companies don't offer this important coverage on an unoccupied home, but we do.

Liability Coverage

This provides coverage if you're found legally responsible for an accident that causes injury to someone who doesn't live in your home or causes property damage to another's property. Liability coverage is optional with a Foremost vacant dwelling policy.

Replacement Cost

If you purchase a replacement cost policy and your vacant home is destroyed by an insured loss, the settlement reflects the cost to replace the damaged items with new property of comparable material and quality, without any deduction for depreciation.

Comprehensive Property Coverage

Coverage for most direct, abrupt and accidental physical losses that aren’t specifically excluded in this policy. In many states, we offer comprehensive coverage on both the dwelling and other structures, such as a garage.

Agreed Loss Settlement

If your vacant home is destroyed by an insured loss, you receive the full amount of agreed upon insurance for your home (minus any applicable deductible). No hassles.

Actual Cash Value

If your vacant home is destroyed by an insured loss, this provides coverage for the cost to replace or repair your damaged property, with a deduction for depreciation, which reflects the age and condition of your home.

Customizable Policies*

Our base policy for vacant homes covers the dwelling itself. Want more coverage? No problem! You can customize your policy by adding coverage for other structures, your personal belongings, liability coverage, and much more.

*Please verify availability in your state and program.

Vacant Home Insurance FAQ

Have questions about vacant insurance? We have answers!

Vacant House Insurance is insurance for a house that has been unoccupied for a certain amount of time – usually 30 days. Most standard homeowners policies limit coverage if a house is unoccupied. Vacant insurance offers specialized coverage for as long as you need it.
Homes become vacant for many different reasons. Maybe you’re a landlord and your property is between tenants. Maybe you’ve bought a new home and haven’t sold your previous home yet, or maybe you’ve inherited a house and haven’t decided what to do with it. Vacant coverage is important any time the home is unoccupied beyond a certain period of time, which varies by state.
A home is considered unoccupied if no one has lived in it for a certain amount of time – usually 30 days. However, the amount of time varies by state.
If you’re a landlord and your home is between tenants, Foremost’s Vacant Insurance policy is a great solution. You can insure the dwelling in our landlord program, and then we can move it to a vacant policy through an endorsement – no need to cancel the old landlord policy. Then, when the home is rented again, we can move it back to a landlord policy. We make it easy for you to move your coverage back and forth.
Foremost offers flexibility with you in mind. You select and purchase the coverages you choose, because we know that insurance isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” product.
We insure dwellings with a very wide range of ages, values and conditions, both site-built and mobile homes!
