After updating to 1.0.7 i could no longer reliably connect to the printer via wi-fi -- it would drop, disappear, pull wrong IP address, other things -- i ended up buying a USB extender cable and plugging it into my computer. Irritating that I have a "wireless" printer that only works plugged in, but I soldiered on.
Fast forward to yesterday, where, Huzzah, a new firmware! Would it fix my printer back to being wireless? would it no longer be super irritating to troubleshoot a printer while the software pops ups advertisements and crashes?
Alas, the 1.0.9 firmware, did, on the one hand, make wireless more stable. But, I am also no longer able to finish a single print... it's given me "Invalid Printer Cartridge" "USB communication error occured" (while in wireless print)
the "Dashboard' now freezes for long periods of time, and when i was in the "Load Filament" menu, i clicked "finish" and it just hung, pouring out more and more molten PLA until i killed the power. (1st pic I have on the review shows that)
I can not recommend buying this, even for entry level, unless it's somehow the 1.0.6 firmware version of the device, and you NEVER upgrade it EVER.

The printer's setup and initial calibration were relatively straightforward, catering well to beginners. The accompanying user manual provided clear instructions, and the pre-assembled components eased the entry into the world of 3D printing. The printer's compact size was also a plus for those with limited space.
My issues began with fitment feeding. I tried unsuccessfully to get the filament to feed, and when it didn't I consulted the manual and then the internet, but to no avail. I was very excited to start my 3D printing journey, but unfortunately it won't be with this printer. Overall 3 stars, the delivery and return processes were straight forward, but the product had some issues.
Now being 5 months into the hobby (and now business) that is 3D printing, I can tell you in good faith, avoid XYZ printing at ALL COSTS. Their system is not open source, filament is locked to their overpriced inconsistent brand, quality control does not exist, and customer service is somehow worse.
Their filament is more expensive than any normal roll on Amazon, and only comes with 60% of the material. If you wish to use 3rd party filament, you have to purchase an "open nfc chip" for $50 and print a spool holder because the stock one does not support 1kg rolls. Fast forward 5 months, I had a small screw loose tension (guess expansion due to heat and sheered at the head, subpar materials for ya) and cause the fan assembly to move forward maybe 5mm, enough to clash with the case and seize the motors making an atrocious noise. The Prendergast is now inoperable. Ive made 4 attempts to contact manufacturer via Amazon, Facebook, and direct user portal, no dice. Had to open an a to z claim and they refunded 10 cents as a giant slap in the face. Currently pending an to z appeal.
Go with an anycubic, they stand by their products especially with hotend failures that have potential to burn your home down.
Original review: Just started 3d printing about a month ago and figured that was enough time to leave an accurate review. This printer definitley has it's quirks, but if you can find work around I feel it's a great value. Starting with the good, I'm happy it's mostly enclosed, we have 2 fur babies so hair floating around was one of my concerns, but it has yet to affect my prints. The set up was easy, it required minimal assembly to begin printing right out of the box, and the software is pretty user friendly. The prints themselves depending on how they're sliced do come out high quality with lots of detail, and it seems long prints aren't an issue. Currently working on my second 10+ hour model.
Now for the bad:
XYZ locks the type of material to their brand with NFC tags, now there are plenty of hacks and work arounds, but I was unaware and bought the Open NFC tag directly from XYZ that allows me to print using 3rd party filaments. The downside is it's $50, and doesn't fit 1kg rolls so you have to just put the spool holder w/ tag on printer and find an alternate way to mount your aftermarket rolls, and you're good to use whatever brand PLA you want.
Another downfall is the non-heated bed, without using any adhesive and the tape provided, flat pieces can and will warp everytime. Ive recently switched to a more gritty bed material provided by hatchbox that seems to be working well, but will likely be upgrading to a glass heated bed in the future.
All in all, its a great printer for beginners and can teach you a lot. If you can snag the printer and filament combo under 200, I would. Also be sure to check their website because I found packages w/ 10+ rolls of filament for not much more money.
